There’s a hole in the tiny country of Samoa near New Zealand that attracts hundreds of adventurous travelers every year. Yeah, you read that right. A hole in the ground is one of Samoa’s biggest attractions. Obviously, it’s not a typical hole. Simply put, it’s a big hole with water coming out of it. The locals call it, To Sua, that literally translates to Big Hole.

Situated near Lotofaga village, To Sua Ocean Trench has a picturesque setting by the coast surrounded by lush greenery in the middle of a lava field. Thanks to the erosion of the lava field over thousands of years, the entire area is dotted with tide pools and blowholes. The 30-meter wide To Sua is the biggest of them all.

Consisting of two large holes joined by a lava tube cave, its main hole is filled with seawater making it a perfect natural swimming pool. It is fed by a series of underground canals and tunnels connected to the ocean, ensuring that the pool is never dried out.

The only way to access the pool is by a narrow, fear inducing steep ladder. Brave it and you’ll find yourself floating in pristine turquoise waters. If you don’t have the patience to climb down the ladder, go ahead, jump right in. Such is the clarity of the water that you’ll be able to see colorful fish swim about.

Trust nature to create the coolest swimming pool in the world!
