It is one of the country’s most important archaeological sites showcasing the region’s history right back to the Paleolithic age. Hop on one of the guided tours to explore Bronze Age tombs and ancient, pre-Islamic era tombs. After a dose of history, get adventurous and take 4WD tour of the area and go paragliding!
Hatta
Adventure and nature lovers can start craving the outdoors after a couple of days in the Dubai’s concrete jungle. Hatta offers the perfect escape. With 50km of graded single-track trails, the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Center is made for biking. If biking doesn’t excite you, there are other things to do in Dubai like a superb 9km trail for walkers and joggers. There’s more. You can hire kayaks and pedalos can paddle around on Hatta Dam.
Al-Ain
At Al-Ain you’ll see the historic side of UAE. Unlike Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain is a not modern megapolis; it is a UNESCO world heritage listed site that takes you back to historic UAE. This oasis was once an important city on the caravan route across the Arabian Peninsula. Wandering through the old city, you’ll be amazed by the irrigation system, falaj, developed by the natives. This irrigation network runs across the city carrying water to the palms plantations. Don’t forget to check out the Al Jahili Fortress and the Al-Ain Palace Museum.
Jebel Jais
Standing tall at 2000meters, Jebel Jais is UAE’s tallest peak. But that’s not all that makes this mountain famous. It also home to the world’s longest zipline – one of UAE’s latest attraction. Zoom down 1,680 meters from the top of Jebel Jais at speeds of 120 to 150 kilometers per hour! At such high speeds, you’ll reach the other end in 2-3 minutes! Once you’ve reached the other side, you’ll be suspended on a landing platform from where you’ll be transferred to a second zip line that’ll take you back.
Fujairah
Enjoy a little bit of nature and history at the tiny Emirate of Fujairah. One its highlights is the mudbrick Al-Bidyah mosque dating back to the 15th century, which is believed to be one of the oldest mosques in UAE. The 16th century golden-toned Fujairah Fort was once an important communication and military outpost. Once you’ve explored the city’s historic side, it’s time to explore its natural side. Snoopy Island off the coast of Fujairah is a popular snorkeling spot. Home to schools of clownfish, coral gardens, and turtles, it’s the best place to snorkel in UAE.
